Reprising the "Apology Tour" Inauguration Edition

I have not written anything even remotely inflammatory lately. Quite honestly, I have been too busy doing the mommy thing, and blogging for giftcards (trying to buy a nintendo wii using no cash from my household). I am however, a bit peeved. The morons over at Fox News have a problem with Jay-Z and Young Jeezy singing "The President is Black."

Now don't get me wrong. It is a catchy tune, and I actually listen to the song it tickles me. I don't listen to it when my girls are in the car for obvious reasons..... Now back to the matter at hand, somehow this is President Obama's fault. During the election the poor man had to apologize for ever man woman or child who was black, who said anything remotely offensive or racial.

Well in the spirit of equal opportunity, equality, and the ghost of racism past, I am going to allow people of other races in on the dirty little secret of "hardworking or educated" black people. For far too long black folks have always felt that we had to prove that we were not and are not the stereotype. Here are the most common:
  • I am an educated black woman.
  • I take care of my kids.
  • I am not a baby's mama; I am someone's wife and mother.
  • I have just as many degrees as you do or more.
  • I grew up in a two parent home.
  • I saw my daddy every day.
  • We don't all act that way.
  • I am well read.
  • I am articulate.
  • I have good grades.
  • I am not promiscuous.
  • The list drones on.
I wonder what it would be like to flip the script. Put white folks on notice. Call them out on their stereotypical crap. For your viewing/reading pleasure:
  • Are all ivy-leaguers as dumb as George Bush?
  • Do all white women have flat behinds?
  • Does BrittanySpears speak for all white women?
  • Is marilyn manson a role model to all white boys?
  • If Larry Craig is Gay are all republicans white males in Congress closet homosexuals?
  • Does Elisabeth Hasselbeck prove all blondes are dumb?
  • Does George W. Bush represent the intelligence of all Yale graduates?
  • Are all teenage white girls sluts like the girls on Girls Gone Wild?
The list could go on. In 2009 lets make a conscious effort to be responsible for ourselves. Let us also make a conscious effort to get rid of the stereotypes. All Black Men are not going to be President, and they all aren't thugs and criminals either.

Just a little food for thought.

Share My Inauguration (blog tour)

Share your Inauguration story.
Visit http://www.sharemyinauguration.com/. Yesterday was a historic time and a historic inauguration. Thousands and thousands of Americans are sharing how they spent their day yesterday and I think that is wonderful. We can share stories of what President Barack Obama's inauguration means to you.

Yesterday I spent my day with my children. We watched and listened to the inauguration three ways: streaming online, via my favorite radio show, and via PBS. My three year old pointed at the tv and kept saying "that is Obama, and he is my President." I love the fact that she is willing to take ownership. I think this election has planted the seeds of politics, and it has planted the seed of patriotism.

If you would like to share your story with other Americans go to http://www.sharemyinauguration.com.

I still Can't Believe it. My President is Smart ..........

Today Barack Hussein Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. This is going to be a historic day. I thought I was going to have to watch it at school, but we have a snow day! Thank you God. I will get to watch the inauguration at home with my husband and my children. It is going to be an all day celebration/extravaganza and I can't wait.

My father, grandfather, and both my grandmothers would have loved to see this day. I hope that God allows them to see it. My dad would have loved this election season, and my grandmothers and I would have been on the phone constantly to discuss..... It would have been cheap too. I would have put them in my circle. LOL. My Grandma Daisy would be happier than a pig in the sunshine.

I am sure that President Obama will not be a saint, and I am sure that I will not agree with all of his policies. I am encouraged however. I will at least know that there was some careful thought and logic in his decision making process. He is an educated man. He is one of the best and the brightest, and he seems to have a high emotional intelligence quotient. I like that fact that he is smarter than I am. I also like that fact that his wife is smart and accomplished too. They remind me of the folks that I know and associate with, black professionals. Folks that navigated the system and carved out a niche for themselves. They are educated black folks. I like that.

I am not a fan of our current and soon to be former President. He just didn't take this job as seriously as I would have liked, and the world and the US suffered for it. May the election of Obama be the start of a renewed sense of goodwill. Lord knows we need it. Hopefully this will mean that we all try to do our very best, and that we stop being so darn selfish. If anyone needs to see what selfishness can bring, just look at the last eight years.

I am a little greatful to G-Dub. If he wasn't such a collosal failure, we would never have taken a chance on the Junior Senator from Illinois.

Good Luck and Godspeed President Elect Obama.

Dad, Grandma Daisy and Ruth
This post is dedicated to you.

Is it Truvia that this is a all natural sugar substitute?

Now don't get me wrong, but for as long as I remember, I have been a Dixie Crystal Sugar kinda girl. It is a southern thing. Fast forward a few years.... I have a mother who is a diabetic and I have suffered with gestational diabetes during pregnacy. Although I did not have any desire to do so, I had to give the sugar substitute a try.

Truvia surprised me. It was good and the aftertaste that you traditionally get with sugar substitutes was minimal. I tried my truvia with a grapefruit. I couldn't really tell much of a difference. It was sweet. Good and sweet. I really think I am going to recommend it to my mom. She is always tries to drink sweet tea with dixie crystals.... I am going to get her hooked by making her some sweet tea with truvia, and see how she reacts to that.
Some helpful info about truvia:

One packet of Truvia™ natural sweetener provides the same sweetness as two teaspoons of sugar.
Truvia™ natural sweetener is a great alternative for people with diabetes

What are you Taking?

I am on several medications, and during my pregnancy I could never remember what I was taking..... Just blame it on the Baby brain. Anywho, it would have been nice to know that information off hand. If I didn't know, it would be nice to have access to it. My mother, a diabetic, is on several different medications, and when I ask her what she is taking.... she can never remember it. My biggest fear is that one of us will end up in the hospital and no one will know what either of us is taking.

Thank God for Mednotes. Mednotes allows you to post all of your prescription information online. It can be accessed from anywhere. According to the Mednotes site:

Add your medications to instantly assemble relevant medical information in a simple, easy to read personalized format. Gain immediate access to in-depth consumer information, drug comparisons, historical news, FDA alerts, drug interactions, plus food, allergy and medical condition interactions.

Choose to be notified when new FDA alerts are issued and when any new drugs become available for any of your existing medical conditions. Use MedNotes to manage drugs and medications for any number of people.

This is excellent. I can easily access the information from anywhere. Thank God this service is available. I am sooo gonna sign my mom up for it today.

Luckily Drugs.com has provided this service. I am suprised someone didn't come up with this idea sooner.

Let's get Cozi!

I am a very busy lady. Let's face it, most women are. Add children to the mix, and quite frankly things can get to be a little hectic. I needed an organizing solution, and I have tried the whole write things down on the family calendar, but quite frankly that doesn't always work well for me. I am a digital girl. I use my computer, and that is just about it. I very rarely put anything into a hard copy.

Well luckily there is Cozi.com Cozi provides me with the perfect solution. Below is a screenshot of what cozi looks like:

It is an excellent representation of everyone's schedule and it is all in one place. It is convenient, userfriendly, and it is not a collection of sticky notes with appointments on it. In addition, It is also has a feature that allows cozi to sync with your outlook or send you messages on your cell phone. This is a win win. Add the shopping list and time for a quick family journal and you have just about all you need.

Cozi can't organize my closet, but it can keep my crew's schedule at my fingertips. I highly recommend this free product! It can also email my husband my schedule, since he conveniently forgets it...... Gotta love Cozi.

Happy New Year.... Better late than never, right?

Happy New Year you guys. I am ever so tired of the newmedia, and quite frankly, I have no desire to watch them. I have been sick most of the New Year. My children were sick, but other than that, things have been pretty good. I have resolved to not make any resolutions this year. I also think that I will probably write a lot more this year because I have a lot more to say. Anyway, I hope all is well for you guys this year, and I hope my hearing will be completely back soon..... Dang infant and toddler.
